Feature Integration
“While there are currently ways for customers to communicate customizations with sellers via messaging, Etsy would like to create a feature that easily identify sellers who take requests for customizations and also allow those same sellers to easily take requests.”
The Scope
Working on a team of 3 for the duration of 1 week to seamlessly integrate a feature to let buyers know what items are customizable without having to ask the seller.
Resources: Pen & paper, post-its, whiteboard, google surveys, Sketch, and Invision.
Parameters: Working within the iOS system
Getting Started
In order to understand the grievances of both the Etsy buyer and seller we sent out screeners via Google Surveys, and set up interviews based on the feedback we received. Interviews were performed in person, over the phone and, in some instances, via a new more extensive Google survey.
User Pain Points
What we discovered after synthesizing the information we received from the surveys and interviews helped us develop a problem statement, create our user personas, and move into design lab:
1. People who sell on Etsy were frustrated by how many different features are implemented onto the Etsy seller app without informing the user of the changes.
2. People who bought items on Etsy were pretty happy with their buying experience on the app, but were frustrated with the amount of content the app presents.
User: “there’s so much on it, and it can be overwhelming. I end up just using the search bar to find what I’m looking for “
Organizing/ Grouping Data
All of the answers we received were sorted into the following categories: Demographics, behaviors, goals, needs
Personas
Feature Prioritization Integration
A MoSCoW Chart (Must, Should, Could, Would) was created in order to decipher which feature(s) would take top priority in the integration process.
After Creating the MoSCoW, a Feature Prioritization Chart was plotted in order to find what feature was the most feasible to implement in the allotted amount of time.

Prototype
The feature we integrated into the seller app allows for Etsy's sellers to now see with a simple indicator when there is something new added to the site. A "New Features" section was added to the menu to allow the seller to view the changes if they missed it the first time.
This feature will allow for sellers to spend less time worrying about all the changes Etsy makes to their app while also allowing them to indicate which products of theirs are customizable. This will cut down on the back-and-forth between seller and buyer.
